Gary J. Chester is a civil trial attorney who has been practicing law in New Jersey since 1983. Mr. Chester honed his litigation skills while employed as a Senior Trial Attorney for two of the world’s largest insurance companies, AIG and Allianz/Fireman’s Fund. He has successfully tried a variety of civil cases before juries in Bergen, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, and Union Counties. Mr. Chester has managed a wide range of civil cases on behalf of individuals and small businesses, including personal injury, civil rights, insurance and commercial disputes, nursing home negligence, employment discrimination, consumer fraud, and family law. In addition, Mr. Chester often serves as special counsel to New Jersey school boards to investigate employment complaints.
Mr. Chester has served as a part-time faculty member of the Montclair State University School of Business since 2008. He teaches the Legal, Ethical and Global Environment of Business course and he has created and taught two additional courses, Law of Sports, Entertainment and Tourism and Law of Consumer Rights and Business Obligations.
In addition to appearing on NBC’s Today with Will Geist, Mr. Chester has reported on sports law issues for WFAN, WNBC, KMOX, Sports Business Journal, ESPN’s Sportsticker.com, and foxsports.com. He has also authored a book on the law and had a scholarly treatise published by a prestigious international law review.
Mr. Chester earned his J.D. from the University of Miami (Fla.) School of Law in 1982. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in Journalism in 1979.
Mr. Chester is admitted to the New Jersey Bar, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He has a Morris County office in Kinnelon and an Essex County office in West Caldwell.
